Nature
Fire and Water, Mountains and Plains.
Azerbaijan is located near Central Asia, at a latitude similar to that of Republic of Korea. Due to its location, climatic conditions, and fertile land, people have settled and lived here since at least the end of the Ice Age. The natural beauty of this place can be described by the contrast of fire and water, mountains and plains.
Fire and Water
True to its nickname, “Land of Fire,” Azerbaijan has several natural gas sites where fire burns continuously. The most famous of these is “Yanar Dag” (Burning Mountain), located near Baku. The mountain emits gas, causing an eternal flame that has been burning for thousands of years, adding to the country’s mystique and attracting tourists.
Additionally, the Caspian Sea, the world’s largest lake, is home to 90% of the world’s sturgeon population and is rich in oil and natural gas resources.
Mountains and Plains
With 60% of its territory being mountainous, Azerbaijan’s climate is shaped by the Caucasus Mountains. From snow-capped peaks to deserts, the country hosts nine out of the world’s 11 climate zones. Azerbaijan’s vast plains and 8,400 rivers support approximately 4,500 plant species, fostering the production of grapes, pomegranates, almonds, hazelnuts, and persimmons.
